WHAT IS AN EXPERT INSPECTION OF A LADDER?

Performing an expert inspection of a ladder means that a person with knowledge of the specific type of technical aid inspects it for damage, defects, and wear. The purpose of the expert inspection is to ensure that the ladder functions correctly and is safe to use. The expert inspection can only be performed by a person who is an expert in the area.

WHAT IS AN EXPERT PERSON?

An expert person is someone who has knowledge of the ladder’s construction, function, and operation.

To be an expert means that you have the necessary education, training, and experience in terms of operation, service, and maintenance of the ladder.

As an expert in ladders, you should also be familiar with both the Labor Inspectorate’s – and other authorities’ – safety requirements for the aid. And it is expected that you know the rules for scrapping and special safety measures.

In short; being an expert means that you know what you are dealing with!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD LADDER INSPECTIONS BE CARRIED OUT?

A ladder must be inspected regularly and by a qualified person.

You can find the rules for ladder inspection in the Danish Working Environment Authority’s Executive Order 428 (formerly Exec. Order 1109) as well as in the manufacturer’s instructions. Additionally, the need for inspection may arise as a result of risk assessments or suspicion of damage or defects on the ladder.

By inspecting your ladder regularly, you reduce the risk of accidents while extending the ladder’s lifespan.
